Mushrooms are incredible at digesting many types of domestic/ commercial waste products, as well as being able to restore environments - especially Oyster Mushrooms! There are even species that assist in vegetable gardening. By using countless types of waste to grow mushrooms, you can help save the Planet while eating delicious mushrooms!
Mushrooms are an integral part of a Permaculture system. They are keen recyclers, filters, biomass generators, and food providers. Because mushrooms can be grown and kept in many different ways, they are very beneficial for both urban and rural landscapes. Mushrooms are truly resilient, and should be taken seriously within our current planet and any we wish to travel to.
This course runs for six hours and covers details about the life-cycle of particular mushrooms, production of gourmet mushrooms using non sterile and pasteurising techniques, and methods for Mycorestoration using Oyster Mushrooms. We will be making mushroom spawn using several substrates including sugar cane mulch, brewer’s waste, coffee grounds, cardboard/paper and more!
Each student will go home with a confident knowledge of growing gourmet mushrooms using waste products, methods of Mycorestoration as well as: your own made spawn bag of King Stropharia, Oyster Mushroom, and (if the bulk inoculation is ready in time) Enokitake spawn.
